It’s great to see one of our Premier Dealers go from strength to strength, by doing just what great bike shops do best. From the ground up, the launch of Kinetic Cycles in 2012 has been a labour of love and hard work. Jon at Kinetic Cycles catches his breath from sprinting between Kinetic’s two lovely store locations, to provide the update…

Apart from the obvious – we’re all a year wiser – what’s changed during this last year?

Running between the two store locations is now very much part of my hectic schedule but I like a hands-on approach to running things. We feel we’ve worked so hard to establish ourselves in Welwyn Garden City and Hitchin (Herts) and are now busy building our reputation around quality advice and first class service.

It’s been another busy summer in the world of cycling, the growing demand for quality bikes and support following the successes off and on the road in the UK is staggering. It’s all very much about the customer experience, be it coffee at The Handlebar cafe, looking after their bikes in our Cytech-qualified workshops, or offering advice on the next upgrade.

Bikes, bikes, bikes, as far as the eye can see

What new lines are you stocking and what really gets you going?

We feel very lucky to have secured the very best in MTB and can offer full bikes and custom builds from our main brands including Specialized, Whyte, Mondraker, Yeti, Felt, Cotic, Evil and Singular. If you can’t find a dream bike from that list, I would recommend having your head checked!

Now we’re very much settled in our store locations, we can focus efforts on providing a full range of products and services not often seen in our area, including a Bike Fitting Studio and a dedicated Physical Therapy room. We’re establishing sports massage, training and nutritional programs to boot.

What has been hot, product-wise this summer?

Mondraker’s ground breaking Forward Geometry Foxy and Foxy Carbon and anything with Whyte written on it! In fact, the Foxy has been our best selling suspension bike ever! We also sold out of Troy Lee A1 helmets pretty sharpish.

The Kinetic crew have found the Mondraker Foxy to be a bit hit, much like our own Jorji

Have you had time to establish regular shop rides yet?

Yes, we’ve had a regular Wednesday evening shop ride from our Welwyn Garden shop for a while. It’s a 6:30pm start and out for a good couple of hours. We’re as fast as the slowest rider, so it’s a great way for the slightly less confident (or fit), to get out with some new people. There is a Hitchin shop ride in the works, to be confirmed very soon!

What tea bags do you use? (or tell us your coffee bean of choice!)

We are loose leaf tea drinkers to be honest, but when we are in a rush it’s Yorkshire all the way.

As you mentioned, we have a coffee shop in Hitchin which serves locally roasted coffee and a selection of award-winning cakes. We’ve got secure bike storage and we don’t mind mud, so no excuses for not popping in!

Lastly, what do Singletrack Premier Subscribers get from you guys?
