We’re seeing more and more helmets with MIPS inside here at the show this year but in a move that shows their commitment to the additional protection offered by the Swedish system Giro have taken an equity stake in the company and started to work with them on improvements.
MIPS helps reduce damage to the brain in accidents where there is a rotational element to the crash (rather than a head-on smack). A slip-liner moves a small amount inside the helmet – preventing your brain doing a similar thing inside your skull (eww and ouch in equal measures). More details here: mipshelmet.com/#what-is-mips

The result of this work is the new Feature with MIPS (as well as a road and a BMX helmet), though obviously there are plans to roll it out throughout the range. Adding MIPS into the Feature makes a lot of sense given the all mountain/enduro/trail/riding your bike that is it’s intended audience. So you get a good level of head cover and the added anti rotational protection as well.
And the best bit of the story? According to our source it’s only going to add around £20 to the price of the helmet. So that’s a MIPS fitted Feature that should retail at under £100, which seems a bargain in our book.
That deserves a “how much!” no?

MIPS ?
Massive Impact protection system?
I’ve added more of an explanation and a link for you, stevemakin…
Considering that most other MIPS helmets are closer to £200, that seems like it’s almost a bargain!
Lazer also do MIPS equipped helmets from £49.99.
Wasn’t the Feature about £40-50 when it was first released, couple of years later and great reviews suddenly becomes more expensive?
