After last year’s spectacular world cup overall victory, Stevie Smith is the man to beat. Unfortunately this morning brings sad news regarding the world’s no.1.
After a SRAM press camp in New Zealand, while riding the Queenstown bike park, Smith attempted a large jump ending in a pretty heavy landing. It turns out his ankle took an almighty amount of force on landing (see video evidence on Dirt here) which has meant he’s been flown back to Canada to get it operated on. The extent of his injury is not yet known but early flights are never a good sign and word is he will be missing both rounds 1 and 2 (there’s only seven in the series).
We contacted Gabe Fox, Devinci sales & marketing manager, who confirmed that as yet there has been no official press release and all information is just speculation,
“At this stage he is day to day.”
More details when we get them.
