Exposure Lights Joystick Mk.6

The Joystick Mk.1 was the original all-in-one, cable-free light design (CFD) from Exposure that led the way for all their subsequent successful units. The Joystick shares the same fundamental design and excellent ball-and-socket helmet mount as the Diablo but with a shorter, lighter main unit and only one LED up front, rated at 325 lumens. With the Diablo costing not that much more money, it can be baffling to work out who would want the Joystick, when in my opinion the Diablo is all the light a lot of people need. The weaker, narrower-beamed Joystick really needs to be paired with a bar mounted system for unrestrictive night time mountain biking. But the Joystick has two cards up its sleeve: burn time and weight. For riders who already have a powerful, long-burning bar-mounted system the Joystick is the ideal partner for your noggin. Its narrowish but deep penetrating beam fills the on-sight gaps nicely. The Joystick is a very discreet and unnoticeable helmet light. Its lighter weight means you can’t really feel it on your head. You don’t have to run your helmet overly tight. On full power it lasts three hours. On the fill-in friendly middle power setting it runs for up to ten hours. It’s a fit and forget light. Its small scale is both its strength and its weakness.

Overall: Most riders should save their pennies for the Diablo but others, such as endurance racers, will still find the Joystick suits their needs best.
