The opening round of the Nutcracker XC race series took place at the weekend on MOD land at Gandale, located on the outskirts of Catterick Garrision in North Yorkshire.
It’s been over a decade since Gandale played host to the old NEMBA mountain bike race series but the 5 mile course was a call back to the old days, packed with lots of technical variety. One of the major spectator locations was the big water splash with a fast descent into the water, spray heading skywards.
The guys at Nutcracker are working hard to set unique courses and bring cross country racing to the north-east of England.
With over 180 entries spread across three different races there was plenty of close racing action in the sunshine. Younger competitors weren’t left out either, with a smaller ‘Sweat Monster’ course laid out.
