England’s Coast-to-Coast mountain bike route is the classic, long distance off road mountain bike ride in Britain. From St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay, it’s a real adventure journeying through three of our finest National Parks with some of the best riding to be had anywhere.
Dales Mountain Biking (DMB) has been running courses and tours mainly based in the Yorkshire Dales for over 12 years but are now venturing Coast to Coast. The route is based loosely on Tim Woodcock’s original trail and passes by the door of the Dales Bike Centre. This made it an obvious trip for the centre to run.
Stu Price from DMB said, “We’ve spent a long time putting these trips together. We’ve used all our experience to get the logistics and timings spot on, these are ace trips. The two options we’ve set are a 7 Day tour that is achievable for most and a 3 Day Endurance trip that is… Well tough. We’re really looking forward to them both”.
The 7 day Coast to Coast trip takes a slight variation on Woodcock’s route, but still takes in the classic sections such as Ennerdale, Walna Scar, and DMB’s local riding; Swaledale, Fryupdale and Glaisdale to name a few. Fully supported, you can just enjoy the riding.
As well as the 7 day trip, DMB have teamed up with Rich Rothwell, (2009 Team Iron Horse Extreme and 2009 24hr Solo Masters World Champion) to create the ultimate endurance Coast to Coast trip. You’ll complete the famous Woodcock route in three ten hour days of approximately 100-130km each. Three consecutive day long rides in England’s finest terrain… three big days on stunning trails… three days riding with a MTB endurance champion…
Rich had this to say “The ride is an absolute epic. People often think of going overseas for a big adventure without considering what we have in the UK. The ‘homegrown’ challenge of the Coast to Coast really appeals; it’s a great test of endurance and mountain biking ability. It will be fantastic to complete the ride over three days in the company of like minded riders. Doing this with Stu at DMB really appealed; he has a genuine passion for the northern hills”. What could be better?

Good idea done the coast to coast before but was a right pain getting food and accomadation sorted ended up eating junk due to finishing late each day.
**** me just seen the prices is it all 5 star!!!!!
You can actually do a week in the alps for that price (all in!)
Did Coast to Coast in September, again, based on Woodcocks route, with some alterations here & there (NYM old stomping ground, so chucked in some old fave’s and skipped the dull run round to Scugdale). £875 (dales centre fee) more than covered everything; 8 nights B&B (rode in 7, but stayed over an extra night), all meals, spares, energy stuff each day & fuel for drive to St Bees/from RHB, plus wife driving as support vehicle to meet half way and end of each day, total about 800 miles!
All accomodation booked in advance, late start on day 1 (a Saturday) meant a late finish and only just got a meal that night, every other night was fine. Friends shared rooms, so they paid £250 for accomodation, rather than my £500.
I’ll book my own again rather than pay £875 per person.
