The Altura Whinlatter Challenge is the 1st mountain bike cross country endurance event to take place, on THE ALTURA TRAIL on Sunday, March 29th at Whinlatter Forest Park, near Keswick.
Riders will complete a course of approximately 30 miles taking in the fantastic new red graded Altura Trail. Already attracting interest from approximately 200 riders, the event is set to be a great inauguration for The Altura Trail as a real technical red venue.
‘We are delighted to have Altura sponsoring this exciting new event. Their investment and support will ensure its success not just this year but in years to come’, stated Richard Staton, Event Organiser.
Whinlatter is England’s only true mountain forest rising to 790m with a large variety of terrain and boasting fantastic views of the Lake District and the surrounding mountains, making it the ideal location for such an event.
‘Since the first section opened in June 08 the feedback on the Altura Trail has been fantastic, attracting riders from all over the UK to ride this extremely natural man-made trail. With the full 19km now open this event kicks off what is sure to be a great year for mountain biking at the Altura Trail at Whinlatter Forest’ stated Ian Young, Altura Manager.
The course will be fully waymarked and marshalled with a feed zone at the half way point. The event will start at 10:30am and the course will close at 4pm.
