Can anyone recommend a decent lightweight saddle and seatpost combo for general xc and some racing, dont want a carbon post or rails or rider limits on post
I'm not looking to spend loads of money either
moon on a stick thinking would be £100 for 400g post and saddle combo
Current thinking is
Controltech Team Issue 1 or Syncros FL post both just over 200g
and maybe a charge knife also just over 200g
I've got a Thomson and specialised avatar which I think is cheaper and about that weight. Got a charge spoon coming based on reviews from here. Also like a WCS post

i also have a charge spoon on the other bike, with cromo rails, its a comfy saddle, hence why i'm tempted to try the charge knife which should be a bit lighter and hopefully as comfy.
hmm selle italia slr xp is another option if i can find a bargin
The Thomson is solid but there's lighter for less. One reason why I like WCS posts. there are some mint s/h Thomson posts available if you are thinking of them. Paid £35 for mine two years ago and I badly scratched it in a new frame straight away.
From previous threads on here, bike radar an some other random reviews the knife is very highly rated but not all find it as comfy as a spoon presumably as it's more streamlined. I'm not too sure when it cones to saddles. Until now I've stuck with what I know to be comfy and am only bow trying something new.
You'll struggle to get an actual (as opposed to avertised) sub 400g combo using a conventional seat/seatpost unless you either; spend loads or accept something that might need a bit of TLC. But an I-Beam will do it:

They also the carbon post for a bit more cash - which if you've a HT makes a very comfy ride.
I-beam is very prone to snapping, frankly!
I'd say WCS post and Charge Knife. Wouldn't expect sub-400g necessarily though. If you were spending slightly more I'd look at KCNC and Spesh Phenom SL.

I've never had an issue and have run them for years.
My I-Beam I-Fly C & post weigh in at 360 grams.

*this is subjective as years on minimalist xc perches means that I have an undercarriage like saddle leather 
I use an Ibeam and a skinny saddle, it's white (matches bike 
) dunno which one though.
really comfy, mine's never snapped either !!
still undecided, the phenom sl does look like a good option but cant find any deals on it.
the richey posts have now entered the equation as they seem good value, but didnt really want 25mm layback, maybe one of them and a phenom sl.
i'm ruling out the ibeams as they arnt compatible with any of my other saddles/posts etc and heard of a few issues too.
still tempted by an slr xp, any xc racers use this?
