Just received an email from facilities at work – section of which…

    "Pool Bikes

As part of our Travel to Work commitment, we have purchased 4 bicycles (complete with helmets, locks) which will soon be available to use as pool bikes. In addition to this, staff will also be able to hire out these bikes free of charge during lunchtimes and break-times (although I appreciate current weather conditions may not make cycling sound too appealing!)

Even on about free towels in the showers, too!! 🙂

Mind you, I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to explain how this may bring about the end of the World…

I'm sure the shared helmets will be lovely, especially in summer

We've had something very similar in work for ages. Not sure why you'd be that excited if you own your own bike though. They recently got rid of the helmets due to hygiene concerns.

Free towels in the showers would be kind of nice, but proper locker facilities (where I leave my towel to dry over the hot water pipe and rotate it regularly) is more useful.

Yea, maybe suggest to them that the helmets might be

    a) un hygenic

    b) the wrong size (and therefore potentialy more dangerous)

    Might be, but might not.

We have a Pashley Work bike at the office which is cool, especially as there is quite a gradient from the top to the bottom of the site, with lots of tight 90 degree bends.

Had to explain how I tore the knee out of my overalls to my team leader one night, then go into the workshop and bend the rack straight while he was cooking his tea. 8)
