Following on from my “preferring XP” declaration last week, I’ve just found out why my C: drive has over 49GB used of 50GB.
Apparently its to do with cover art downloaded with iTunes.

Media Player has a nasty little Network Sharing service, which stores these cover art files (jpgs) and fills up your drive with them. 150,000 (27GB) of the bloody things on my system!

Yeah Windows 7 is blummin great, cheers!

So that would be iTunes and Windows Media Player that you’re not happy with, rather than Windows 7, no?

I’m pretty sure each of these apps will let you choose whether or not to download large jpegs.

thats not a w7 problem really is it?

anyway, if you want to know where your files are, use Treesize to keep an eye on things.

XP didn’t have the Media Player sharing service, so no, its Windows 7 I am unhappy with smarty.

By DEFAULT the sharing service is ON and saves the files.

Yes, I found them using Treesize.

And Media Player is not my default player for music files. It’s not even fully installed

Could just be a partition? My ubuntu partition is only 20 gigs (though I’m down to 500mb and can’t remove anything :|). I have a massive partition that is accessible by windows and ubuntu with most of my media and files on.

My Win7 doesn’t seem to store any shared network files by default 😕

Funny that the cause of some of your problems is a shitty Apple product 🙂

why you having ago at me I expressed no opinion except to say that the ACRONYMS meant the same thing. I now feel confident in concluding , as you do that in fact you are an idiot.
Google chrome does spell check I use that now though it does not recognise google and suggest goggle , googly, go oggle and goodly as auto corrects.

Funny, cos my Hi-Tunes works fine on my Apple Macintosh computer.

Infact, everyting works fine, except for…..

    ….Microsoft Office.

Strange that, eh? Mind you, Office is crap on my PC too*, just for balance….

Ok, realised why I had the media sharing service on – was to share media with my TV (since found 3rd party software to do it better).
Obviously not as clever as you lot who KNEW it would cache lots of media art files in an obscurely named folder when you do that.
How could I have not known that? what a dope. I’ve packed my pc up and put it in the garage cos I don’t think I’m clever enough to use it.

I had this problem when I took over – so found this little gem to help me out!

    http://www.partition-tool.com/easeus-partition-manager-server/

Resized C: from 10G -> 50G (added more drives to the raid array).

Beware – takes a LONG time! Took 3 days 24/7 for our SBS 2k3 box – and it was offline the whole time!

(Not that it mattered…. I designed a fairly resilient topology… so our network still worked perfectly)

xiphon, ta, not my problem – all the servers are ESX virtuals and another guy looks after them, I just have to poke him every so often to get him to do it.

    Made you look,
    Made you stare,
Made the barber cut your hair.
    Cut it long,
    Cut it short,
Cut it with a knife and fork.

It’s just a bit of harmless fun. Don’t get so wound up over it. 🙂
