So in an effort to not destroy my new pro2 freehub body i was thinking about wide based ss cogs.

Is there any reason i cant just put two standard shimano DX cogs together?

I havent checked but im assuming the teeth will be in the same location compared to where the freehub connections are of course.

Maybe (probably) im just being stupid but thought id ask.

Teeth will be too wide. They are called wide based cogs and not wide cogs – probably a reason for that. 😉

hmm yes the teeth will be too wide.

That was my next solution stumpy, but as i already have a 15,16 and an 18 tooth shimano cog i thought it might be a way of saving a little bit of money.

Shame as i just bought all three of them new. 😕

edit: 7 quid for a single cog is fine, 7 quid for 4 cogs gets expensive. Theres a reason i ride a singlespeed instead of other things.

I would just use the cogs you have. My freehub is makred to hell – doesnt make any difference to its operation.

superstar ones are ok, Mr superstar may be a nob but i still go for cheap and functional parts and SS have never let me down

Yip. Alloy freehub which makes the hope one look cheap. It still takes a cassette when needs must. When the time comes I will just take a swiss file and remove any burrs.

err is there anywhere that does cheapish 15,16,17 and 18 tooth wide cogs?

the superstar selection leaves a little to be desired 🙂

Surly here, on a ProII – doesn't make much difference really, the freehub will still get chewed up.
If you're really concerned, Hope do a steel freehub body for the ProII, about £35 I think.

I bought a groove armada from On-one. Not silly wide but wider than the f
Gusset thing originally fitted. Had to buy a set of spacers from Charlie the bikemonger or londonfixie to accommodate thicker cog
