Looking at buying some new trekking boots, Was thinking of the Salomon 4D GTX or Asolo Flame GTX Boots any recommendations or thoughts? Cheers.

    Well, I’ve got these: http://www.webtogs.co.uk/Meindl_Burma_PRO_MFS_Walking_Boot_188.html

They needed about 150 miles of walking to break them in, mind.

I’ve got some Asolo Fugitive GTX and I can’t fault them. They’re a great boot although they do come up a little narrow. However, they seem to fit my feet well – I would definitely try them before purchasing to make sure you’re comfortable with the fit if you go down the Asolo route.

EDIT – Go outdoors will have a great deal on Scarpa Infinity GTX (15th-28th Novemvber) – £90 down from £170 – I’d be tempted to have a look at these too

Depends on the type of walking you do.

Brashers are very comfortable and I have walked/scrambled in the Lakes/Wales etc and they have been very good and robust.the fir is very good for me.
For moving quicker and lighter Inov8 boots are nice, very grippy and comfortable.

On an alternative track don’t discount Hi tech boots – I have had several pairs and am currently using a pair as a trekking boot.

Whats most important is fit tho – so go to a specialist shop and try a few pairs on.

Walking boots are one of those items you have to go and try on as different manufacturers have different last shapes so what works well for one person will be awful for another. For example from personal experience, Meindl tend to be pretty wide, and Asolo a little narrow with a pretty tight heel cup You also need to be comfortable with things like flex and weight.

Also very important to match the boot with what you intend doing. No point in buying light weight fabric boots if you are going scrambling in Scotland in the winter.

Find somewhere local with a good selection that has a stone practice walking ramp and go midweek when they are quiet so you get someone really knowledgeable with plenty of time

Which boots? The ones that fit you best.

There is no generic ‘best boot’.

Cheers for the feedback. Been trekking/scrambling for a good few years now and just wanted some generic opinions. I live in Scotland so I have a few pairs of boots for the conditions but I’m on my way to the Atlas Mountains in a week or so and was looking for a boot for hotter climate/summer time. Go outdoors seem to have the best choice and price for me I think and I can try all the above mentioned on! Cheers.
