Off to the Lakes in three weeks for my stag do, what would people suggest for the best single day out without it being an epic (there's beer to drink!)? Looked at Honister, Black Sails, Styhead loop, which might be a winner but what suggestions to you have…. Thanks

Honister, Black Head etc is definitely an epic, it's a whole day out with a fair bit of pushing!

Borrowdale Bash or Skiddaw Loop if you're up Keswick way. Far too many to list if you're round Ambleside (pop into BikeTreks in Ambleside for route info)

The obvious ride to do in the lakes is The Northface Trail, although it sounds like you might not be too near by so Whinlatter might be a better option?

    Really?

Its not like theres miles and miles of fantastic Natural stuff to be found there…

There is life outside Trail Centres…

And those 2 are particually Crap by comparrison to most…

really depends on where you are staying, wouldn't recommend the north face on its own but can be really good for linking together the bridle ways with in the forest.

Second Crazy-legs suggestion of asking at biketreks or if your up Keswick way KMB, you can't beat a bit of local knowledge.

The route that you are suggesting is testing to say the least but all depends on what your looking for really and where your based.

A figure of 8 out of Ambleside, Troutbeck in the am, lunch in town then out the other side for Loughrigg etc, in the pm. The vertabrae graphics book has 2 such excellent loops.
