Nah, pre quiche. To catch the crumbs.

Whenever I get on my DH bike!
Open face helmet at all other times when I have to actually pedal a bike up a hill, it's too damn hot to do that in a full face.

Depends if you are ugly. Some proper mingers should be made to wear them back to front.

Like in Scotland? They have magical force-fields around your head there. Apparently

Is ok to wear a full face if you have a hardtail?

Yes, but denim is also part of the dress code.

When do you need to wear a ful face helmet? In all honesty whenever you feel the need to do so!
whenever I go for a play down the local DH spot (don't laugh, I do appreciate the irony of saying that living in lincolnshire!) I put mine on. If I'm on a normal xc ride I will wear an open face lid as I balance the risk against the discomfort, one of the guys I ride with always wears one though, his view is that if he's going to wear a helmet at all it might as well be one that offers the maximum protection possible.

Yes, but denim is also part of the dress code.
You'd look silly in a denim jacket and shorts!

Whenever the race organisers insist you have to.

sometime before you rub your face into the rocks+1 you only need it at the moment of impact, the rest of the time it's just not necessary.
You "need" a full face whenever you feel it is justified. I don't own one because I don't ride expecting to fall off. If I was going to be pushing myself to the point where I thought a crash was likely (jumping/freeride) or racing (dowhnill) then I'd consider getting one.

We went to the alps a few years ago and bought them, except one.
On discussion he'd said to his wife that he couldn't see the point as he'd only wear it once (the alps) - surely that's when you need it, the once, she said.
So he bought one. And promptly went over the bars on the first morning...

I have one so when I go up snowdon it will be on my bag on the way up and i will wear it on the way down. Others don't have them so they will wear their normal helmets.
At the risk of sounding like teej wear one when the risk is deemed enough to warrant twearing one. For me this is always at DH tracks, and when trying to learn how to jump and always when trying to ride a BMX like a 15yo. The bike that is used has nothing to do with it.

There's a bloke in Nottingham commutes through Radford in one. If I commuted there I think I would too. Having Said that he looks special.

There's a guy who regularly cycles down King's Road in Chelsea wearing a full face and body armour over his work clothes.
Posted 4 months ago # -
I'd say that was quite sensible considering the number of brainless dimwits that drive down that road in their sports cars and Chelsea tractors!!

Whenever I ride the DH bike.... wearing an XC helmet on it just feels weird.

wear one when the risk is deemed enough to warrant twearing one
is the correct answer and applies to all helmets. Personal choice innit.
