For me, today discovering that the crappy panels were hiding some lovely weighty feature doors, not only saving me a few quid, but exactly what I wanted anyhow.

[IMG] [/IMG]

...and then realising they're ****ed (all other doors are exactly the same upon checking).

Really disappointed, it was a bit of really good news, for about 6 minutes.

EDIT: LOTS of EDITS 😉

Ah, I've just looked at the second pic more closely. Are they sitting miles outside the frames when closed?

Jamie, you haven't seen the half of it yet. I'm on my todd doing this, so expect a few more.. What else do I pay my subscription for?

(I do feel a bit guilty though)

DD you beautiful man, full of entertaining & witty posts (I have bathroom flooring to do myself soon) yes, the bottom of door fits flush, the top is in a different postcode. Frames are sound, door is just warped beyond comprehension.

They can be 're-trained' with some temporary barrel bolts fitted to the leading edge/ face, top & bottom, or just top or bottom, whichever is out of true with the door frame. And a bit of time, but they will straighten out.

A door in our house was the same when we bought it. The problem was it had got damp and warped. It was still damp so I put it out in the sun with weights on bending it the other way. Once dry (a week or so in the French sun)it was nearly flat but had cracked in places. I drove long screws through the cracked bits, tidied it up and it's been OK since. OK meaning that though still a bit warped it shuts without a fight.

Really?!

*Frantic googling*

You mean fit barrel bolts to the frame and just keep door closed?

(Sorry, this wasn't actually meant to be a Bareneccisitesieieiieieiieis renovation post)

EDIT: WTF?!

You could start a thread and add progression a bit like the 'rate my bricky' thread it'll make it easier for others to keep track, give advice.

I did kind of, but it seemed a bit sycophantic, and considering the range of advice I need, seemed more appropriate to be specific with the particular need.

What slackalice says is worth a try. There are clamping methods that might work but would require a bit of kit and investment. Tbh, I'd probably hit the local reclamation yard and see what they've got. Or get reproduction internal engineered. That's a hell of a warp though.

P.s. Don't put timber floors in the bathroom. 🙂

^ that made me smile without getting disappointed.

Marvin. He's the clearest minded thinker I know.

My new posh shed being built on Wednesday and then realising I have three days of wood treatments to apply before I can put stuff in it. One day to go... The smile is back

Sounds like a good idea to me Bear, Don't worry about this

People who are interested or able to help will, those that are not will just not read it....FWIW I reckon a lot of people don't mind seeing jobs in progress and then seeing the end result ( god knows there are enough tv programs like this ) you will have the added advantage of not having to look through loads of threads as well.

Doors...Take off lye flat with a weight on worked for me once, but not guaranteed.

and to answer your OP....Holiday flat in Portugal...Yuck

Yes I have. I had a look around while you were sleeping. I was going to wake you, but you seemed so peaceful.

Bought this with my Christmas money in 1978. So happy until I heard the first track and my mum had to explain what a cover version was. Robbed!

Planning on having those doors stripped. That will warp them a touch so a good stripper may well be able to tidy things up from their current state.

Current job. Due to reorganisation we went from 15 to 10. None of us really wanted the jobs but the £7k hit to the pocket was the other option 😥
Nearing retirement I was surprised to have been chosen 😐 Must be my skillz 😉

Documenting your process on here is also good because it'll be indexed by google and might be able to help out some other poor sod in the future. And also generate hits for STW 🙂

I got an AT-AT for Christmas once, I was really happy. I immediately had a fight with my older sister who pushed me off the bed, breaking one of the legs off. I then had a 3 legged AT-AT, which was shit, I was really disappointed.

I had the exact same thing underneath horrible panels on 4 upstairs doors

It can be sorted- leave it outside overnight in heavy rain, bring back in - lay flat with heavy weight on each corner. This is what I did on one. Actually I left it outside for months (oops).

[img] [/img]

B&Q etc sell some really nasty veneered-doors with no weight or soundproofing for upto £100 each.

Better to fix solid wood for free IMO.
