    My turn,

    What’s this, then? For scale, it’s sitting in a pint glass. Body is about the size of my little fingernail, and its legs were a good 4″ long (it was reaching up to get out and was past the bulge in the glass).

    Top one is argiope bruennichi I think. It’s the only spider whose scientific name I know!

    I saw one in the south of England 20 years ago but haven’t seen one since. I think they are rather beautiful.
