Thinking of switching to Maxxis tyres from the Schwalbes I've been using but don't know which combo to go for. There seems be a quite a few XC ones (Ardent, Aspen,Crossmark,Larsen TT,High Roller). My riding is general XC,Marathons and a few 24hr races and mostly nothing to technical. Any recommendations/expieriences. Thanks.

Crossmark is very good on the back in the dry - descent even on tech stuff and surprisinly grippy.
Don't race but it rolls well.

I got maxxis advantage XC 2.1 70a - sl draggy on tarmac and wider profile than most 2.1's but great grip - wouldn't say its a race tyre though
Good on cornering - although they loose traction - as all tyres will at some point - they then grip again and save your life

How about Ardent up front for cornering grip and crossmark out back for straight line speed?

Got Maxxis Advantages 2.1s on both front and back, they roll really well and grip on the corners. Inspire much more confidence that other tires I've tried and not had a pinch flat since getting them.

crossmark out back.
from grippy to fast high roller, ardent, aspen, crossmark up front.

You'd probably quite like 2.1 High Rollers...

2.1 Advantages here. Nice grip & roll well, but I've had more punctures in the past 6 months than the past 6 years on other tyres (really).

I'm running some monorails, very nice!

Normally use high rollers but found the 2.1 really narrow. Started using the single ply 2.35 but decided i wanted something less draggy so went for 2.2 conti race kings. Used them yesterday and they are so much faster on the road. Local woods were bone dry so found they gripped well but time will tell how they perform in the wet and how durable they are.

Any idea where the advantage fits into that?

somewhere between the ardent and aspen, i reckon jim

Assume minions are slowest/grippiest?
Posted 2 years ago # -
advantage sidewalls dont like flints.
Posted 2 years ago # -
Do any side walls like flints? Certaily MK's dont IME

minions are great for grip but not for racing

I moved to Maxxis this Jan and I'm a convert. High Roller 2.35 front Advantage 2.1 rear - great trail center setup. That HR never lets go no matter how hard you honk in to the corners. XC Enduro? Dry - Crossmark F&R if its a bit more wet Advantage front Crossmark rear would be my choice.

Whatever you do don't put an Advantage on the front if you do any damp technical stuff -guaranteed to dump you on the floor
