Building up a 29er hardtail with alfine rear hub.

What chain should I use on it? Does it need a proper single-speed chain … going to run a none ramped SS chainring.

I just have a standard 9 sp chain on mine – mainly so I only need one type of sram link in my repair kit

I ran a singlespeed SRAM chain on my Rohloff when I had it. Worked well; chain still came off occasionally, mind

I just use a cheapie non hyperglide style chain. I think it was a singlespeed chain. Big fat thing that wont break. Some might say a bit like me.

The benefit of an Alfine is simplicity (on the outside at least).

I run a 9 speed chain on mine – found the single speed chain would move from sisde to side a bit on the sprocket and make a noise against the plastic bits.

when i had mine i ran an SRAM PC-1 which seemed to be fine and never fell off.
