looking at a small car.
had the old version Twingo in mind but saw that both of the above cars are available with a 1.4 TDI, 3 cyclinder engine.
supposedly maga MPG is possible.
does anyone have experience of owning either of these cars? how practical are they? and by that i mean can i get two bikes plus crap in the back of them or alternatively two snowbaords plus crap?

Wife had a petrol lupo, nice car overall. Didnt use it to transport bikes much, one bike would fit in easy enough though. We got rid because it kept failing the emissions during the MOT and despite spending a number of days at the VW garage no solution was found. It was very economical for a petrol, around 50 mpg, but this dropped to high 30's towards the end. Again, no fault was ever found.
The 1.4 tdi is the same engine as an Audi A2, which is a slightly bigger car, which you can easily get two bikes in.
I had an '03 Arosa TDi.... it was ace!!! £35 a year tax, low insurance, pokey engine in that size of car.... and yes mpg ranging from 45-50mpg urban/traffic jams, to early 70's on a long stretch
I only tried getting one bike in (both wheels off), but reckon there'd be room for one more with a bit of messing about.

I know it's no fashion icon but have you looked at a fiat panda multijet diesel?
hmmm. pandas haven't been around so long and as such the 2nd hand prices are higher.
have seen a few Arosas for under €2k. that is pretty much all i'm willing to spend on a car.
i had a Seat Ibiza 1.9d back in the UK and it was cheap as chips to run, reliability and mileage were very good.
that is why i'm looking at VAG cars....
great little cars. the arosa will come in slightly cheaper but they're no worse.
will a bike with just the front wheel removed fit in one or a lupo?
or anyone got a rack for a smartcar?

I've got a panda multijet diesel, it's ace, no dmf, cam chain instead of a belt and much better built than fiats of old, driven like a complete **** it gives 50-55mpg or like normal about 60mpg or at 56mph on the motorway about 70-75mpg £30 tax and group 2 insurance,it's a motoring costs time machine
And it fits two bikes in the back with wheels off, you'll be lucky to get one for 2k though.
