It's mostly just an insight into the crashing mundanity of other people's lives – it might make you feel better about your own as a side-effect. I'd liken it to one of those sci-fi type nightmares where you can suddenly hear the thoughts of everyone around you. People who suffix every other post with 'nom nom nom' want spanking :-/
