How amazing? It came out whilst I was at Uni and I’m watching the angry, dank, angst, energy of the film now. Wow.

Truly brilliant film. The pub where Begbie throws the glass off the balcony used to be my local.

Great film, and turned me on to Irvine Welsh.

Glue/Porno I must have read 20 times each.

Get a copy of “IF” about life in a public school, great film lots of twists and no bad language or sex scenes.

Trainspotting is a better as a film than as a book.

I tried to read the book once. Got to the bottom of the first page after about 15 mins of reading and re-reading then put it down.

It (the film) somehow manages to add comedy, very strong characters, realism and a cracking soundtrack to a very grim and tragic story.

I love how it got criticised for promoting drug use. Only an imbecile would think it promotes drug use.

I wouldn’t mind ‘Filth’ being made into a film.

Got to disagree. The scene where he is fishing around in the toilet comes across a bit comic in the film but is desperate in the book – much better

I always thought it looked like upstairs at the Guildford Arms, no?

The pub in which Begbie throws a pint glass off a balcony is Crosslands, located on Queen Margaret Drive, Glasgow. The pub has an oil painting depicting the scene hung in the upstairs area – Wiki.

I love the bit where Tommy takes them on a nice invigorating Highland walk and Renton does that speech about being Scottish! 😀 Then they all come home and get back on Heroin 🙁

for a tougher film of the same period about disillusionment and dislocation try Mike Leighs Naked. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107653/

The book is so much better than the film and captures the horror so much more than the film was
TBH i was disappointed with the film but I dont see how you can capture the inner thought on film

    no sex scenes.

I seem to recall a rather fruity black and white scene involving roaring and a motorbike…

We were shown it in English Lit class once. The master didnt know which way to look 🙂
It was filmed at my old school dontchaknow 😉

I’m not even sure that’s possible, especially as the only remotely likeable charater happens to be a tapeworm!

ahh, the old cash and sunset denouement, surprised he didn’t have a hot babe as well. spoilt it for me a bit. it would’ve been better and more realistic if he carried on just being an estate agent!

what’s this?.. strangely then he ran out of cash and had to do a sequel! http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/dec/07/danny-boyle-trainspotting-sequel where is it?

I thought the book was 10 times better and really dark , read the chapter ‘bad Blood’ and disagree. I thought Porn and filth were his best books as they both had Juice Terry who made sickboy look like Harry Potter.

Hora – porno sort of follows on from trainspotting, but read glue first.

Maribou Stork Nightmares is brilliant, but the format takes a bit of getting used to. Acid House for the toilet!

I heard that they started filming it down in Cornwall.. only it was a big con.. and the film studio was a rented hangar.. with rented equipment.. and as soon as the ‘studios’ owners had got their few mill payment they did a moonlight flit in a scene very reminiscent of the original films ending.. leaving the film makers broke..

love Irvine Welsh.. one of the best authors of our time..
