Got for it... you'll have a whale of a time.
What's the point if you don't?
I want to be able to do it. Well, I want to do a triathlon. That's basically it. With running, I wanted not to hate it - to be better so I could enjoy it. I can't see how there would ever be anything enjoyable about slogging up and down a pool, but I would like the satisfaction of completing a monster multi-discipline event like an ironman or the Ben.
And yes, there is a bit of masochism in there, but only subtly. I like the satisfaction of having conquered something difficult and a bit grim.
Molgrips - you truly are a freak!
Ro5ey - well that's sealed it then.
I think you will find lots of cyclists share the same mindset. Actually, many roadies don't even have a goal, they just grind down mile after mile on tarmac for the hell of it.
But they enjoy it, surely? That's what their 'for the hell of it' is?
But they enjoy it, surely?
i do - off to hopefully complete approximately 600 miles of road cycling in Mallorca in a week tomorrow 😀
triathlon is a dirty word in my opinion
I personally like the Molgrips/TSY interaction as usual.
We love each other really.
I'm quite enjoying the way alex222 is coming along... I see potential in this one.
The A48 in the rain is not Mallorca in spring, is it?

It's just calorie reduction
HAHAHA... love this one...
The A48 in the rain is not Mallorca in spring
The rain in Spain, falls mainly on the plane?
The A48 in the rain is not Mallorca in spring, is it?
yes but high rigs/strines and other assorted south yorkshire/derbyshire horrors during winter in the snow, rain and other unpleasant weather conditions in preparation for mallorca is also not mallorca.
Right.. that's what I am talking about 🙂
But does he love it though? Frozen hands, aching legs, even when it's miserable I love it.
If I'm not going to love it, I don't ride.
If I'm suffering or struggling I repeat a little mantra in my head... then I love it again 🙂
f I'm suffering or struggling I repeat a little mantra in my head
is that 'when I get home I'm going to filate myself and do a poo at the same time'?
its what i say to myself
I'm normally too numb by that point to even consider it.
The sole purpose of endurance training is to raise the pace at which you have to endure the suffering
I hate it sometimes, but that's just when I'm riding like crap - not so much to do with the weather. When it's hard going I just get smug about taking on the weather and winning.
even when it's miserable I love it.
You are a labrador, and I claim my 5 doggie treats.
*whos a goood booy then!*
Kick me Jamie, I need to suffer for this 🙂
You need to suffer for starting arguments about diet on here all the time..!
I'm normally too numb by that point to even consider it.
making a doubly difficult challenge you need to man up and also possibly eat some white carbs upon your return from the ride so you have enough energy to complete the activities described within the mantra
Kick me Jamie, I need to suffer for this
I fear we may be going slightly off topic.
*pats on head*
My Mrs doesn't let me though alex...
MOlly what else are we going to chew the fat about?
iDave - surely you enjoy the suffering??
MOlly what else are we going to chew the fat about?
*awkward silence*

TSY - I'll show you on Sunday how much I love the suffering
Have you sponsored her yet?
Okay... back on topic...
Does anyone else have little things they say to themselves when they're hurting?
I like "this is when I get stronger" works best with a wry smile when your legs are at their limit.
Does anyone else have little things they say to themselves when they're hurting?
Yes.
"Balls to this...TAXI!"
I just say "Shut up Legs" in a Jens Voigt way .
I just pretend I am on a solo breakaway in a TdF stage. Seriously. It works too, for about 5 mins.
'Legs, legs, legs'
Inspirational eh. Stops my cadence dropping right off when I'm running a long way.
When I was climbing I occasionally made use of 'come on arms, do your stuff'. Bonus point for non-googled source.
Does anyone else have little things they say to themselves when they're hurting?
No.
Saying things to yourself just wastes energy you should be using to bring the horizon closer. Chuck Norris once thanked me for explaining this to him.
I'm afraid Chuck Norris is unavailable for comment, being engaged in a furious 3-way tussle with a crocodile and Jens Voigt.
Actually, now I think about it I just switch to power balladz on the iPod.
There's a bloke in the local running club who lets out an ear-splitting primal scream when he wants to channel a bit more energy to his legs. Nearly wet myself with terror the first time he did it coming past me.
'come on arms, do your stuff'
Sy Stallone in... Over the Top ?
Just after the turns his cap around ??

Cycling is about getting outside and into the elements and you don’t need to be listening to Queen or Slayer in order to experience that. Immerse yourself in the rhythm and pain, not in whatever 80?s hair band you call “music”.
