I had an attempted suicide the other night. Stopped about 6yds short of him. He didn’t move at all, made no attempt to get out of the way, just sat there on the rail staring at me. “I want to die” is all he said to me when I challenged him.

I did the same job last night and I must admit I felt my stomach tie up in apprehension as I approached the spot.

I’ve been the one called out to clear the mess up on more occasions than I care to remember, yes the rail industry can pay well depending on what you do, but it’s not a nice job sometimes.

Friend of mine hit a bloke between Birmingham and Wolverhampton a few months back, really shook him up, was off work for ages!
The rules and regulations railway employees have to know is phenomenal, coupled with the unsociable hours, solitary confinements, strict D&A policy and the potential to kill thousands of people in one foul swoop I think we earn our money!
I wouldn’t swap my Signallers job for anything!

If that were a jumper (its not), it would appear the driver gets a good few seconds for the reality to sink in before the bump…

And failing to dodge a tornado…oops (skip to 50 seconds if you’re impatient)
