Howya folks? Thinking about buying an adjustable torque wrench for doing some maintenance on the bike, what range of torque should I be looking at? Any links to any you’ve bought would be great
    Thanks

If it’s mainly torquing-up seatpost collars / stems / bars I’d go for a preset 5nm one – cheaper and much safer.

I picked up the PX/O-O Jobsworth one a couple of Christmas’s ago when on sale. Been very good, although I only use it occasionally. Think I paid £24.99.

Saying all that this is pretty much identical and some might say that Wiggle is better to deal with.

The Lifeline or similar is the one I have, rebranded Madison in my case, it’s nice to use, decent value.

+1 for the lifeline, its what ive been using for the bike, prefer one that you can set the torque on rather than having a preset version

Norbar. £75 ish from Amazon from a well renowned company who specialise in that exact thing. Lovely bit of kit and they’ll re-calibrate for free too.

we use 3-15nm with 1/4″ drive and 10-60nm with 3/8th drive in workshops

    I have a preset 5nm that i use a lot.

I also have a Sykes-Pykavant Motorq 20. This is a pro workshop tool and is adjustable from 4-20nm. However the instrument scale is UNDER a transparent clear plastic handle. This has gone badly opaque and its v costly to send to them, get a paid inspection and then replaced….so i wouldnt recommend. Its currently an expensive paperweight

We have the digital one from Planet X, bought it in the sale a while ago. Looks like its back in the sale but a bit dearer

Oh, and in terms of range, 2-15nm or thereabout is good for most bike stuff.

Mountain bike tools are bloody expensive. I think I’ll keep paying labour for someone else to fix it, for now.
