There are 2 million people living within 30 kilometres of Cannock Chase, thats alot of differing gene pools cramming into just 14 miles of waymarked trails.

Sooooooooooo glad I didnt take the missus to Cannock yesterday but went to the peaks. Judging by this thread you go along and ride your bike, stop, ride some more, stop, ride a little further then get your iphone out and bitch about someone who got in your way/didnt get in your way but looked like they were going to get in your way but didnt get in your way but potentially could have got in your way while you where in there way!

Had a really nice day at cannock yesterday getting there good and early seems to be the key, hardly met anyone all the way round.
did meet some guy with his kid who could have only been about 4 or 5 that was doing really well. top parenting there!
How are people meant to get good enough unless they try and ride the trails?
The bottle neck areas like the werewolf drop (small ramp consisting of about 5 stones) could they not just build a 'ride around' so people can avoid it? they have in other areas?
people standing on the exits and entrances to the singletrack (often where it meets fire road) can be a pain in the arse.
I let people past and other people let me past sometimes...
Out on the chase for nearly 2.5 hours on saturday and saw 8 other bikes, 2 horse riders and 3 deer- must admit when we drove past Birches Valley car park it looked blummin busy!!

Yes you get a fair few on Jacobs etc - however 'a fair few' is absolutely nothing compared to 'hot spots' like the trail centres or other natural areas.

If you're sat either side of the trail, I'll ride right through you with a cheery hello, maybe I'll catch up a group on the trail, sit behind them and then pass if/when I can. Nobody has more or less right to be there than me, as I can't dictate to them, you can't dictate to me.
Errr, you're not, but should you just assume the worst that I am indeed an arsehole that thinks I own the place and can stop wherever I want and to hell with others? Personally though, I'm not that negative, I expect that most things have happened for a reason and it's not my place to question or interfere. If someone has stopped in front of me on a bit of singletrack at Cannock meaning I can't ride round them whist out on a Sunday ride, it's pretty near the bottom of my list of events that shaped my day. Call me a hippy, but I'm glad that everyone is out riding the trails, overbiked or not (its their prerogative, why judge?), slower than me, faster than me, it matters not... After all, they could have been wasting their afternoon sat watching Football, or the X Factor on TV!
I think you missed my point a little though DS, cos in essence I agree with you. At Cannock though, for those who haven't ridden there, on the Monkey trail there are a few bits of singletrack through the trees, where you couldn't pass at all really, and we had to stop and wait for a group in front of us at one of these points. No issue to me at all, but it clearly upset mr Ellsworth behind us.

I think quite a bit of it is down to jealousy.
i dont care what people ride as long as they have fun, i certainly dont mock peopel for having expensive bikes nor do i mock people for having low end bikes....
the only thing that annoys me at cannock especially at werewolf is people stood around waiting for people to fail, its not exactly the best place to regroup if your in a group, and its quiet off putting for people with lesser confidence on it etc...ive never come a cropper on it, as i said dont see the fuss with it, but its never going to help people have a go at it, if you get morons stood at the bottom watching, putting people off....

I can tell a hardtail from a full susser, thats it. No idea on the cost of bikes I see - its a bike that's it. Means I cant have any pre-conceptions about people I meet.
i think alot of the time people on this forum are probably the nicest folk you could meet in real life, ive yet to come across an arse in the real world, yet stick them behind a keyboard on a internet forum where courtesy, friendlyness, being a nice person do not need to apply.....im sure half of the usual tossbags on here would be genuinely nice in real life....
you will get some folk who think they own the trails as they are faster, and youll get some folk who think they can at a snail pace because they have a right to be there too...its all compromise, just try and be friendly and say hello, and try and pass slower riders in a nice way, or try and let faster riders pass you a bit more easily.....

I've already seen vigilante death squads being organised on other less savoury MTB forums..
your most sensible course of action would be to sell your turner immediately.. for a fraction of it's worth.. to someone who lives far from the chase and has no desire to visit a trail centre ever..
