Have managed to strip the thread out from one of the post mounts on my Fox 32 fork. Must have cross-threaded it without knowing. The caliper bolt holdsjust but not tight and and is loosening in use, causing me some stress! Is there a known fix for this that I can do to get the caliper bolt tightening up again? Is it possible to get an insert to allow the bolt to find a thread? Help appreciated.

You can fit a helicoil to it. Some will tell you that there might not be enough material around it and it will compromise strength. However, unless you're really extreme, it should be fine in my estimation. I've done it on a friends manitous and they've been find for the two years since.

Same as that. Wouldnt get into the habit of taking the caliper off every five minutes though. Check your LBS . They should do it I would have thought to save you buying the kit yourself.

yes it's called a helicoil, you'll need to carefully drill the thread to the right size and retap to the helicoil size and screw in the helicoil then it's ok. speak to a local engineering supplies shop that you'll most likely find on an industrial estate and they can advise you of the size you'll need and it might help to find a local workshop or lbs that can fit it for you and you'll not have to buy the tap and tools to fit it.

Take it to a local precision engineering workshop - they'll helicoil it for beer money. If done properly it will be a stronger thread than when it left Fox

pte tape? I'm sure it has been recommended before for stripped threads.

I had that problem as the bolts (as fitted by manufacturer) were a bit short. Cured by using Loctite as the threads had enough left for that - also used longer bolts. Worth a try as it leaves the option for other fixes later if it's not successful.
But I avoid removing the caliper.

threadlock?

many thanks for the info folks. Think will try local engineering company and helicoil as using longest bolt already and not much thread hanging on. Dont actually remove caliper much but have to adjust a bit when changing wheelsets. Already using loctite on these bolts.
