Told this morning that we are not allowed to use our bikes in this weather and that we dont have to deliver anywhere where we might endanger ourselves!
Took out 95% of my delivery but other workshy feckers took very little,
Usually stick up for my company but this is a new low 🙄

Hmmmmm company protecting it’s personnel – disgusting, how dare they treat their workers with such consideration for their well-being.

Giving employees discretion when it comes to where they do or not deliver based on local conditions – that’s just cruel and heartless management.

and how is this display of ‘use your own initiative’ received?

Nearly everyone goes ‘Yay!’ and buggers off home.

No sign of my postie for days and we’re down in the tropical south.

But how many companies use this sort of approach to leave staff high and dry if they do come a cropper? if someone gets unlucky, will they say “tough luck but we didn’t force you to go there”.

Well they are also worried about all the no win no fee claims. Cant win whatever they do.

What is a shame though is peoples asessment of risk, lack of common sence and an inability to be responsible for their own actions.

not had any post since Friday (snow started on Saturday)
Im pretty sure that it not because there is no post for me just hasnt been any deliveries
and Im in a city centre a mile from sorting office, roads and paths are easily passable

I live about 500 yards form Postman Pats lair and he hasn’t made it this far and there is only about 1/2″ of snow on the pavement.

Not seen post in or out of the village since Thursday.

Perhaps you should blame your colleagues lack of motivation, rather than the companies policies.

Yeah, I’m sure they are trying to cover their arses, but surely that is better than forcing everyone to go out into conditions that could potentially result in injury.

I think it’s a good idea they stopped you using your bikes: You could cause an accident.

It’s not like delivery of the post is an emergency service.

If anyone desperately needs an item of mail then I am sure if you went to your local Delivery Office that you can pick it up.

That is what we are doing to addresses that are inaccessible due to the snow.

I hate it when organisations tell us to be carefull – why cant people use a little common sence and take some responsibility for their own actions.

Employees are adults and should be capable of judgement. Sending out memos to be carefull just creates an climate of no self responsibility that those no win no fee adverts live up to.

Is there no sence of pride in trying to do a job well in difficult circumstances ?

Our Postlady is first class, she runs her round, fit is not the word, a fell runner, which shows 😉

My post was delivered today, through the snow, with a nice wave and smile, could not ask for more.

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

However Common sense is alive and kicking in the bunnyhop household and long may he/she reign.

Did anyone see Sarah Beeny last week letting her very young son and nephew help cut up a large tree with real saws? I said to the telly yay! Sarah is letting those children live in the real world.

Our postie has been great and delivered yesterday and today in the snow.

arguably a wise decision as riding a loaded bike might be more difficut than usual, however it should be on a case by case basisrather than a dictat

they should give ice spikes for your shoes,the local PCSO’s around here have them and we have minimal snow and ice at the moment, they cost around £8 posted on fleabay

if it’s sheet ice I wouldn’t expect you to risk it

my company is taking a zero tolerance approach to accidents (ie remove the ris), the contractors (who do most of the dangerous stuff) have a better accident rate that we do as the slips, trips and falls in the office overtake their stats. 🙄

That is a load of piffle and you should be ashamed to post it. None of the examples are true. All are myths ( apart from parents attacking teachers

Just seen a postie in Cannock by Hawks Green on his bike, well about 2hrs ago.

TJ, you may be correct, I was just passing it on. But its the sort of thing that people do believe. Thats the problem, if it causes organisations to react in that manner. We need an atitude of people taking responsibility and applying common sence.

One of the bike events I used to do was cancelled due to snow – in case people got stuck in it in their cars driving to the event !

All the houses that had mail from the 700 I deliver to got their mail today 😀 , I’m good me!

Just wish I had a quid for everyone that told me I was mad for wearing shorts I could probably buy a new frame with it.

Took me 3 hour to deliver then 2 hours to drive the 7 miles home when Leeds council shut all the schools and the parents filled the roads.

my brother’s been told to take whatever they feel comfortable carrying (letters only too) and only if they want to in the conditions – he’s gone out but a few others probably haven’t. hope no-one’s waiting for urgent parts from crc in barnsley!

All black ice round here but all the deliveries went out of our sorting office this morning and nothing came back.

Completed my delivery today, a couple of inches of snow and ice didn’t slow me down, I was two wheel drifting my postie bike every chance I got. Oh, Still in shorts too.

Management said we didnt have to go out if we didnt feel it was safe to do so, but we all completed our deliveries cos we know otherwise we will have two days worth tomorrow. Were not all work-shy’s 🙂
