    Hi all,

Got a few questions about Fork/Shock maintenance that I was hoping some people on here might be able to help with. I have a pair of bikes, one with Rockshox Sektors and one with Fox RL 100s, and both with Fox rear shoxs.

Now I realise that I should be giving these an occasional service (ever 40 hrs for the fox fork apparently!) and am trying to establish what a ‘service’ involves. A few vids on youtube make out its simply a case of replacing the oil and seals and giving everything a quick clean, basically a half hour job. But then I look on the mojo site and they charge 120 quid and appear to dismantle the uppers as well.

So my question is, how often can I get away with doing the basics, and how often does the whole thing need sent away to a specialist at vast expense and inconvenience? And when will I know when this needs done!??

    Thanks all

Any thoughts? This doesn’t appear to be a very popular topic! Sorry if its been done before, had a search and couldn’t find anything.

It depends on how much you use them TBH and their agae as 2010 Fox forks onwards IMHO last longer between services then pre 2010 – I do an aircan service say every 6 months of average use and a seal clean on my 2010 fox’s every say 3 months (as I have more than one MTB).

A quick guide(s) I wrote here if interested:

I service my forks every two months and top up the seals every week. Do a can service on the rear shock every 3 weeks. Both units need to be sent off for a full service been on bike for 4 years.

I’d say send away for a full service once a year, do a basic one every couple of months.

All depends on how much and how muddy it is when you use them – If you stick to their service intervals you can’t go wrong but that may be too much hassle?

Thanks folks. Checked out your article Foxy, really helpful.

So is this all they do when you send it to Mojo, or do they do anything with the airspring etc? All looks fairly basic for what they charge if its a simple clean, seal and oil change!

    Two final questions!

How do you know when the seals need replacing. I’m assuming this isn’t done every time you strip it down for inspection, just if you think they look a little worn out?

I assume that fox float fluid and 10 oz fox oil could also be used on the sektors? All I’d need to source is the RS seal kit?

Again thanks for the responses. Just back into Mountain biking after years away from the sport. When I did it last suspension didn’t exist and the only maintanence required was a spot of wd40 on the chain! Oh how times have changed 🙂
