Maths not your strong point then?
The cheapest iPad from Apple Store is £439.
Top Kindle is £152
Decent Netbook = £250.....get calculating

They can be had for less than £439 and I don't consider £37 to be a *lot* of money

...and you can get the kindle for £112 and a netbook for £200. I was just pointing out your comment was a bit harsh at Mr Lightyear.

How about a netbook and a tablet:

A tablet style will undoubtedly be much better for reading on a train - think standing up for a start.
Most technical book PDFs have quite large margins, so for successful reading on my Sony 505 ereader - which will about the same size as the Kindle - I need to crop the margins down.
I then read in landscape half-a-page at a time as zooming then means they are unlikely to format very well.
So an Ipad might be better with its larger screen.
However the iPad screen is very glossy - the reading experience on the Sony is wildly better.
The bigger Kindle DX might be nice, but it is a bit expensive.

Neither a tablet or netbook - just get a laptop for about £400. Easily light enough to carry around (inc. on a bike) and you get a decent screen + keyboard + enough power to do useful work.

While I have different needs, I'm going to wait for the next andriod tablets.
