Hi guys, does anybody know anything about super short cage derailleurs??
On CRC there is a super short cage derailleur for £35. The question is, would it work with a 1x9 set up, if the rear cassette was 11-34?
Any help would be appreciated!!!

I reckon it will be fine but tight...from memory when I used to run short cage mechs the maximum tooth size was 28, but it would work with a 32...but it was nearing full stretch.
34 might be just and no more...for that price, try it...someone will buy it from you without much hassle - it would be handy for DH bikes (being a short cage mech) or for someone who likes a nice tight look and quicker shifting (I've never noticed a slower shift on a longer mech!).

i tryed a short cage x9 mech with a double front 36 / 24 rings . it was fine when on the 36 up front in any rear gear just couldnt cope on the 24 up front and higher than 4 or 5 out back , went too slack !that was only so it wasnt too tight on big ring at back big ring front mind .does that make any sence ?? sorry im bit wined up tonight

It works on my bike though the top jockey wheel does rub on the bottom of the 34t cog even with the b-screw right in. Can live with it for the amount of time spent in that gear though.

I run a super short cage x9 (10sp) on my full sus, 12-36 cassette, and the 9sp x0 version with an 11-34 cassette on my hardtail, both bikes have a single 30tooth front chainring.

Worked fine on my old mini DH bike.
super short cage, and an 11-32 cassette. (with a bit of chain growth)
Just make sure your chain length is spot on.

I run an X0 super short on my Meta with an 11-34 rear and a 36-22 front setup. It's absolutely fine. As is said above it gets slack in the granny ring if you go more than half way up the range. So don't do that.
