    Hi all,

Would be grateful for some advice.

Need to get a cassette and chain but not sure which way to go.

Running Shimano XTR shifters and mechs (M970) and XT cranks (M770).

I see CRC are doing some pretty good deals on Sram PG990 cassettes and was wondering if they would be compatable – I'd love an XTR but a tad too expensive in my mind

If compatable would it be better to get a Sram or Shimano chain? Or even a KMC or Wipperman?

    Any advice grately appreciated

    Thanks for the help

I run a pg990 cassette on with xtr 970 shifters and 972 rear mech with no problems. Shimano chain on mine btw.

You can run Sram cassette and I'd run a Sram chain, powerlink is useful for cleaning/maintenance.

It's all cross compatible basically, you'll get hundreds of responses on what people recommend.

Shimano cassette and SRAM chain for me.

As above, cassettes and chains are all cross compatible as are front mechs, front shifters and cranks. The problems revolve around mixing SRAM shifters with Shimano rear mechs or vice versa.

Or mixing SRAM XX with anything else allegedly, but that's not the point!
