I have a new short cage X7 rear mech.

It wont shift down to the highest (i.e. the 11 tooth) cog on my cassette.

It just looks like it wont physically move far enough down. The limit screw is fully wound out so thats not stopping it. The cable is slack enough. Infact in the resting position with no cable, it wont go down far enough.

Mech hanger looks straight, it shifts into all the other gears fine.

    Whats the problem?

This is the first sram mech Ive used, normally with shimano theres a large range of adjustment with the limit screws.

Have you tried adjusting the 'angle of dangle' screw? Unlike Shimano, SRAM ones actually do something, and if the mech is too close to the cassette, that could be your problem. 🙂

I'll give that a go, never bothered with it before because as you say, on shimano mechs the dangle doesnt angle, it just does **** all

Strange, I just put a X-9 on (long cage, cheap fom Wiggle)and it was brilliant to set up. I did do the chain clearance first though as suggested, and chin length.

    Good luck.
