  • Snow map – help fill it in!

    Hi

I’m a Geography teacher and would really appreciate your help if you live in the UK.

Please go outside and measure the depth of the snow at your house in cm.

    Open this spreadsheet:

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Agsl0Wd0Ys37dDhhRXZyY1gwbUwwVVEzdDBkTVljZ3c

Fill in the first bit of your postcode as shown, then the snow depth at your house in cm. It will automatically fill in the lat/long column.

It saves automatically, so you can then just close it.

I am going to use the data to make a pretty map!

    Thanks for your help,

    Done.

Where did the postcode/lat long lookup come from?

There is a .csv file of postcode “first bits” and their corresponding lat/long on the internet somewhere – I googled it and found something and just wrote the vlookup.

iv added a couple of observed locations where i was yesterday, but the snow has gone now.

needs a specific time snapshot to make it ‘really geeky and scientific’ 😉

Using Google Fusion – I worked out how to do it using their tutorial. I had no idea that Google Fusion even existed at 8am today so the tutorials must be alright.
