What's the deal with it? Any difference to a regular SLX?

Any difference to a regular SLX?
Yes people that have never used one will tell you it's rubbish on tight singletrack.

It has bigger flanges than the normal version...fnar fnar

why not make all hubs like that? Wouldn't it build into a stiffer wheel if you end up using shorter spokes?

If all hubs were made like that, where would the nichness be eh?

The 29er hubs have stronger internals to withstand the use of a 22/36 bottom gear which is available with the 29er cassette.

The rear wheel on my 29er Scandal is build on a standard SLX hub (got it for less than £20 in a sale)
been on there about a year now, no problems at all (used very regularly)
often with a full weekends kit on (bivy, stove etc...)oh and btw I'm 14St so not light weight
I'd say get whichever.
[Edit] only used Single speed though, 32x16 (most of the time) [Edit]

Howdy all,
Just about to buy SLX hubs, either 29er or normal.
Ressurecting this just in case there's a concensus to be found other than "meh..." or "pfff.." which is what I got from the above!
Any real-world difference other than looks?
I can see why the flanges might need to be stronger to resist more torque, but not the internals?

29erkeiths wheels seemed to be a bit different from this
no problems at all (used very regularly)
at the weekend
i thought the internals were different on the 29er one...

Borked then, TT? oh dear!
So based entirely on his experience, you'd say the 29er specific versions are worth a go?
Was he/had he been doing anything silly?
