bought a bottle for tonight, as i remember i tried some last year and liked it. dont know what it was with tho.

had a quick google and it seems to vary between drinking neat, and using it in cocktails.

anyone drink it with normal stuff like tonic or orange? any good ideas for me to try?

    cheers

Either with some ice, or a spot of soda.

I have some damson gin maturing nicely in the kitchen. It's not quite ready yet but it needs a daily test! 8)

Neat for me, with maybe a cube ot two of ice, but obviously in tiny amounts. (Yeah right!! ) 😉

its good with tonic. And yes, making it yourself really improves the taste compared to gordons.

Not all the commercial stuff is pants. This stuff is top notch:

    bramley and gage sloe gin

Recipes there, too. Hedgerow sling is my favourite, or neat.

Pick a load of sloes. maybe about 5 oz. Freeze them. thaw them. prick them all over and put in a bottle. Add a couple of ounces of sugar, fill with good gin/ leave for 6 months turning occasionally.

    Drink

Gin and coke is my poison. With a twist of lemon.

My God I have lost a few nights on that stuff. 😯

What passes as good Gin? Serious question. I'm quite partial to Gordons with tonic.

Try replacing the Gin and make sloe Vodka. Drink it neat with ice or a dash of lemonade.

Best drunk from a hipflask shared with your mates in the middle of a damp cold forest in the middle of the night. Bikes obligatory, naturally.

How does sloe gin (I've never had it) compare with normal gin (I'm currently drinking it) tastewise?

TUT – if we have a long spell of fine weather and you can risk riding your bike, I'll let you taste sloe gin – I have approx 5 gallons on the go right now!

It is sweet but sharp, warming, rounded – nothing like gin at all really. Gin just works really well as a base spirit and imbibes something more than vodka does to the fruit. I have damson gin, bramble whisky, apple vodka and hazelnut spirit on the go this year.
