your bike is obviously rubbish/broken/needs more things to tweak 😀

Possibly loose cranks or worn pedal bearings.

Perhaps someone has wrapped the linkage in clingfilm?

jeez, anyone would think this is a MTB forum where folks can ask MTB related questions!

hora, ask about some sort of cx, 29er type or lights to illuminate the moon thing and they would be all over it.

Can only be brake jack induced pedal feedback.

check your freehub, I had something similar just before the internals of a bontrager freehub completely exploded

As above, also check for loose suspension linkages if it’s a full susser.

Brand new frame-built and spun round. Its the same feeling that you get when you’ve ovalised/dinged the rim on a road rear wheel.

Could be the POWA in my legs bending time.

Its the BB- one cup is very rough/stiff bearings. Mad as the BB itself is 4 weeks old FFS.

Are the the new ‘back door’ pedals? That’d explain the kick….

Suggest drag in freehub / freehub failure – does the chain ‘bunch up’ if placed in a work stand and pedalled / freewheeled?

I reckon hsmith has it – stiff chain link – feels exactly as you describe.

Got it. 1st gen saint cranks that I used for 5yrs then stored. The spindle is longer than my later XT’s (a few mm) – resulted in play in the nondriveside crank. Ta guys
