About to push the order button on an inbred (funds permitting), and have just a few questions about the ideal chain setup.

I'll be going with a regular 26" wheel and some spacers (none of that SS specific stuff as I'm not known for making rear wheels banana shaped, and it will be more useful to have a spare wheel to cover other bikes if necessary).

    1) Planning on using a regular QR. Should that work okay?

    2) Are surly tuggnuts a better bet than on one chaintugs? Anything else I should consider?

    3) Worth getting two chaintugs just to be on the safe side?

    4) Is a half link chain a good idea to make it easier to get tension correct, or should I just go with a regular 8 speed (with powerlink)?

    5) Can you use powerlinks with half link chains?

Minor points, but worth minimizing rear wheel slipping I think!

    Cheers

    1) yes

    2) surly nice on-one fine dmr ok too.

    3) one's easier to manage ime.

    4) either's fine

    5) not std powerlinks, no – not sure if they do half link ones.

    1) Yes
    2) I've only used the on-one chaintugs, and they worked perfectly with the old SS Inbred. I expect they will with the SD Inbred. And they are a **** cheaper. Though they wont open your beer.
    3) Its easier to use two, but not essential. I used two.
    4) I wouldn't bother with a dedicated SS frame.
    5) Yes, as long as you get the right one. Silver with an 8 speed iirc.

    Edit : D'oh, I answered 5 for 8-speed chains, not half-link. No, you can't.

Thanks to you both – pretty much as I thought. Think I'll go with an 8 speed chain, a couple of surly tuggnuts (if I can find em cheap enough, failig which some on-one chaintugs) and a good ol' qr skewer. Simples.

Not fussed about beer opening, but the suryls do seem to get a good rep, and I can run a 10mm axel through them should I ever choose too.

surly tuggnuts are a lot nicer imo ( and i'm a fan of most things on-one )

and one on the drive side is all you want

    yes
no much of a muchness in terms of function. surly do look nice
no I bought two chain tugs, just to be sure. guess how many I'm using now?
yes You may not need a half-link chain with a frame that has a decent slot length, but they look cool.
    no
