OK, so there’s a few problems with some boobie-enhancers out there on the market. However, the thing that’s shocked me a little is the numbers involved.

Apparently, around 40,000 women have had implants from the dodgy company/batch.
    40,000!

From one company! This leads to the inevitable question, just how many have had implants overall? It’s a pretty scary number, I would imagine!

Its caused exclusively by women feeling the need to live up to the Bravisimo adverts on this very site

Therefore its all DD’s fault. FACT!

What I was wondering is why if faulty implants have been used by private clinics it is not then the job of the same private clinics to remove them.

Why (if they need removed) is the NHS having to clear up the mess and pay the cost?

I imagine the NHS would be in a position to sue the french manufacturer.

From my poll (taken back stage at Stringfellows) it would appear that at least 85% of women have had implants.

Funny, I thought the same thing. It seems like a lot of people have had non-essential elective surgery, huh…?

Oh I see, let’s discuss the amount of people with breast implants.

    Brilliant…

irc – have you learnt nothing from the banking crisis? Private businesses make profits. When they do so this is great and capitalism is the bestest thing everer. They get to keep all the swag as anything else would be socialism, or communism…. or something that is evil, and rubbish, and all that

Then when it all goes tits up (sorry), then its back over to mr and mrs taxpayer to clear up the mess.

But yay for capitalism anyway. And boo for all the other stuff

I’ve pulled quite a lot of birds, only 2 of them had implants.

If only we could find a way to transplant moobs and sell them as 100% natural implants.

You’d have thought they have worked out an exchange system by now, where the moob fat from middle aged mtbers could be extracted and donated to enhance boobies.

Or maybe we should be encouraged to carry moob donor cards –

“In the event of my moobs wobbling too much, I hear by authorise them to be donated to an A cup related accident victim.”

Enough to effect average sizes and allow brands to do ranges just for enhanced boobs…

my dads Russian bride has them – they are almost comedy in size….

Bear in mind that a lot of these procedures are for women you have had a mastectomy dues to cancer. I think I heard on the radio this morning that this affected 3000 women in the UK (for implants from this company). It’s not all vanity.

Im sure the Department of Health are being kept abreast of the situation.

Indeed. I am a huge supporter (no pun intended!) of reconstructive surgery, it had a massive impact on my family. However, the sheer size of the numbers are a bit shocking. It still leaves 37,000 from that company and batch alone who weren’t for reconstructive purposes.

There were 350 000 operations in the US in 2008 if that helps. I guess you must be looking at about 1 million per year globally now 😯

The wife had these about 6 years ago and yes they ruptured. Transform would not replace these free of charge but they did replace them at a considerable discount which we grumbled about at the time but it looks like they will charge full whack to replace now.

It’s very easy to level accusations of pure vanity towards people who’ve had breast enlargement surgery, however there are an awful lot of women who’ve endured mastectomies who’ve gone through the whole reconstruction process.

To tell a woman who’s gone through the above that her implant(s) might be a health risk is sure as heck going to cause her a great deal of emotional trauma.
