Genuine question, has there actually been a successful culture without religion? It does seem to have developed fairly independently in all the major civilisations.

look at history. almost each time a religion is banned it gains in popularity.

i read an interesting book recently, “why the west rules, for now”.

it started off around the time of the domestication of crops, both in the middle east (fertile cresent) and china. although domestication occured at different times (a few thousand years earlier in the west than the east) within a relatively short space of time each communtiy had created its own religious activities, each mirroring strongly the other.

Worth a read Also really useful for avoiding nut cases in US/Canada like garlic and vampires 😀
