  • Shallow drop bars for cross?

Suggestions, please peeps, for some shallow drop bars for cross:

    1. Going on a SS cross bike (well, it’s an old bike that’s going to be converted to cross).

    2. Same width as I ride on the road (42cm) or wider?

    Cheers

Do you want flared drops? If so, some of Brant’s Luxy bars? http://www.ragleybikes.com/2010/05/luxy-bar-is-go/

I have shallow drops on both my road bikes. Planet-x Strada. I really like them and find them very comfortable for extended periods on the drops. I always found Ergo Drop bars to be an awful bit of a stretch for me.

Mike – I think I want more “regular” shaped drops, but I’ll have a look.

Barry – I’ll have a look at those.

Ran Bell Laps for years on mine, now switched to Bonty RL VR. Much prefer them.

    +1 for the Pro PLTs.

The normal shallow choice seems to be FSA Omega, but take a look at the 3T ones (think they are called Ergonova).

forgot to mention budget, as in small – this is a distinctly, er, sixth bike, and so needs to have changes made in accordance with its overall pricing…. 😉

CRC. Sort by price. Scroll down till you find the cheapest acceptable bar.

Do the same at Wiggle. Buy the cheapest.

    That’s how I make all bike-purchase decisions.

I’ve got some FSA’s that are a really nice shape, use the same ones on the road bike as well.

Pretty sure the Luxys are still not available.

I’ve got a similar requirement to ourmaninthenorth ‘cept I need non-OS as well. Anyone got any ideas?

I bought Salsa Woodchippers for the Gryphon.

It’s tken me ages to build and I still can’t sus’ the drop levers / deare mech combo on the rear. Figure it’s probably chain length.

    Hey ho, I digress 😉

Side by side I estimate by eye that the WCs are the same shallow-ness as on one mary bars but the grip is much longer on the former. Got big wide beasties as well at (IIRC) 46cm and “regular” diameter to fit MTB stems.

Oh, and they’re both flared because I figure they’ll be better off road / in rough stuff and it’s what Sam’s test Gryphon had on which I liked so much I bought one.

    Buy a cheap 2nd O/S stem, and a pair of O/S bars?

Buying a new OS stem might be an option but I currently have some 26mm bar top levers as well. I probably wouldn’t miss them too much apart from the fact that the rear one has a barrel adjuster for brake fine tuning.

Wowsers that drop bar guy appears to be an EPIC FORUM BATTLE LEGEND.

We should invite him over here.

FSA compacts here, great on a CX bike. Prefer a longer drop on the road bike, but use the same width on both (44cm).
