So trying to use my camera at the weekend and it constantly displayed “write protected”. An inspection of the SD card and comparison with another (which worked in the camera) showed that a small tab on the side of the broken card has snapped off. So I’m guessing the card is permanently write protected now?

Have I understood this correctly? And if not how do I make it writeable again?

The tab doesn’t do anything to the card itself, it operates a switch in the device the card is plugged into. With any luck you should be able to use a bit of tape or something to overcome the problem.

    Bung some tape over it.

Works same as cassettes – if you are old enough to remember them?

I had to put my card in the laptop and do a “quickformat” which restored it to working order.
