im having a wee problem with my inbred 29er which gets ridden about scotland in the rain and then stored inside my flat. there is rust and rusty goo (presumably rust and grease) inside the seattube - enough that it has stripped some of the anodising off the bottom of my thompson seatpost and just looks nasty and not very healthy
the bike gets washed (in the shower) after dirty rides and like i said is stored inside
i have tried spraying loads of wd40 down the seattube and leaving it to drip out to clear what rust is already there and i always grease the seatpost before i put it in.
is there anything i can do to clear the rust and stop it from coming back. is it really a problem? internet opinions seem to range from 'you must framesave a steel frame' to 'the amount of rust possible inside a steel frames tubes has no discernable effect on strength etc'
