Can't seem to get a reliable wireless computer for the road bike, had ones from Cateye, Sigma, and now Specialized, all of them have just packed up at various inconvenient times...Don't care about functions (need just the basics speed, distance, time, sort of thing) Just needs to be reliable...

The problem. Bicycle computers are very sporty, complex, and suitable for performance cycling...

re: the 2nd of rootes suggestions.
someone built an edwardian chassis with a WW1 aero engine on it and used one of those for the speedo. In the article they asked 'how can you tell how fast you're going at night?' He said 'It's ok, the exhaust flames on overrun illuminate it nicely.'
get an Apple Mac... very reliable computers. or if that won't fit on the bars, then maybe an iPad or iPhone.
or, buy a Polar. yes they cost more, but think about how much you've wasted on
ones from Cateye, Sigma, and now Specialized,and for the same you've had got a proper one that's seriously waterproof and will last for years.. plus is designed to be used in all conditions.
disagree i had a polar it was absolute trash - good at reading my heart rate - it had no idea what speed i was doing half the time. tried new batterys - tried making it closer - further away up and down no joy getting it reliable so i was happy with it so sold it ....
garmin pissed all over it for reliability.
my cat eye on my mtb cant even do 50k without spitting the dummy !
nick - i've got a fairly basic sigma sport one somewhere in the garage, was on my road bike for years and never glitched. if i can find all the bits (not that likely) you're welcome to it
I've had great reliability from my polar cs200 (wireless & HR) for 3000 miles/18months on my road bike (not my only bike btw!)
mine was an s520 tri with cadence/speed and foot pod ....
