Does the threaded part actually screw into the alloy part of the mech that it sits in? Having weird gear issues and the adjuster pulls out completely if I release the cable. Tried to screw it in but the spring tension seems to prevent that?

    Any ideas?

Thread in the mech has stripped 🙁

If you don’t want to replace the mech then I’d bin the spring, put the adjuster back in, and let the cable tension keep it pressed in. Do any tension adjustments at the shifter.

Should screw in. Sounds like stripped thread

It screws in, that’s how it changes the effective length of the outer.

It does need to be pushed in a little so that the spring in compressed before the threads will bite. remove spring, try and screw it in, if it still doesn’t bite then you have stripped the thread.

It’s possible to helicoil the thread if it is stripped.

Cheers guys – will try the thread in without spring idea first…
