what as a mountain biker do you look for in a pub?
mines a open fire and a pint of the black stuff(for the iron content of course)

Somewhere I can leave the bike with a half decent chance it'll still be there when I come out.
Where they don't mind mud spattered me.

matt out and about . is that the pub in killin. popped in there on a wet afternoon in May. turned out to be a good day

Somewhere with flagstone flooring and brush down wooden benches!
Welcoming Landlord and regulars that aren’t asshats who look down on cyclists.
Decent ciders plus nibbles (pork scratchings and Real roast ox crisps) - to negate all that hard work.
A feeling that your bike isn’t going to get half-inched from the carpark.
One of my favorites is the Black Horse (AKA The Kicker), Clapton-in-Gordano - a proper old styley traditional English pub.

mine up near glentress very good caring bar man sending us to bed at 4am knowing we had the black route to do next day!
oh and we did it with

Real Ales and ciders.
Friendly Locals.
Welcoming if you are covered in 'mud and blood'- which is the norm for me.
Beer Garden and open fire.
Safe bike parking.
Good views are nice too, either of landscape or more 'local'...King Arthurur in Reynoldston, Gower. Royal Oak, Rhandirmwyn. Ancient Briton, Pen y Cae, Upper Swansea Valley. The Wern Fawr, Ystalyfera. The list goes on.

Best selection of ales and cider and one lager for lost tourists.
Fire
Cute barmaids
The landlord (chap on right in picture) is third generation and called Charlie (the cider monger)
Big garden
Awesome view over the sea
No phone reception
Live music
And.... It's 15 minutes of downhill back to my home.
I have never found a better pub. Taybank arms hotel on dunkeld is nice and I found one good one as sswc Ireland.

Square and Compass +1 (though it'd be even better without the rainbow-jumpered crusties letting their dogs sh*t in the garden)
Bankes Arms is another post-Purbecks favourite. Great local beers.
