I've been given a nice old road frame, lugged Columbus steel, old style forward facing slotted drops, it also has 'FF' cut out of the bottom of the BB and two f's or r's inside each other on the lugs. No real reason, I'd just like to know what I'm riding...

FF relates to a Shimano 'front freewheel' system

Really, never heard of that, it looks a standard Italian bb shell to me, how's that work, then?

not sure, just googled it!
could be wrong.
rear cassette fixed, front cranks have a freewheel in. not very common, Schwinn bikes crop up with this system but not much else. came about in the 70s and into the 80s.
the BB shell might just be the same as others (italian etc.)Posted 2 years ago # -
Try asking Hilary Stone, he's about the only person I know who would be able to identify this sort of thing, you'll need the frame number as usually.
He has a web site and usually has stuff on sale on ebay.
