Mate has an ST4 and is very impressed with it having just put possibly an entire summers worth of riding in on it in the space of a week. Have heard that Orange have a few tweaks on the way for next year on them, and the colour to go for is neon green imo.

MM: Yeah, SMB8 2.1 and Blue Groove 2.35. I like the back end a little drifty and loose with the front end proper pinned down. I found a rip in the SMB8 so I've got a 2.1 High Roller on the back for now.
Ignore the spacers, I'd literally just fitted the forks and I don't have any facilities for cutting the steerer down. It's no longer like that

Fools gold does look quite nice, but I've never seen one in the flesh so think I'm gonna go for the white.
Ah, good choice! I saw a white one in...cough..err JE James (there I've said it!) last week - even in there, it looked very nice.(only ruled it out as a colour 'cos my Pace is white)

Anyone asked Orange if the back end is Maxle-dropoutable?

On the Five front - my LBS has an "S" in that nice metallic apple green colour - they swapped the Recons for some nice black Fox Vanilla R's, purely because they thought it looked terrible with the standard forks.
Looks ace - and they're selling it at the same price as one with Recons!
I got mine in that bloody metallic greyish colour that everyone gets their VW golfs in, and I am fed up of it after 1.5yrs - saving up to send it back to Orange for a re-spray!

Fools Gold is great as those very light mud days, you just brush the splatters off and they don't even show up when they dry!
It also seems to be the most hard wearing colour I've seen on the trails. Clouding of the top tube is less of an issue and it is reluctant to chip or scratch at all. I've got scuffs from really big hits but all the paint is still there.
Aside from cable rub, watch it on that folded down tube - helicopter tape it well up before riding the first time.

This is sounding better & betterIt also seems to be the most hard wearing colour I've seen on the trails
I reckon the white Pace that I've got has the thinnest powder coat and 'chippiest' laquer of any bike I've ever owned - hmmm(ponder ponder)....now maybe if I got it resprayed?...no no no!!
Err..re: Maxle rear end for ST4 - sounds a good option if available. I know someone who'd stiffened up the back end of his old Marin FS via this route, he reckons it made a very noticable difference.
