One armed cyclist - an update

Hi all.

I know a lot of you have been interested in how J was getting on with his riding and I have been rather absent on here recently.
Well, the reason is, his sarcoma came back, in his lung this time - this is officialy 'a bit of a pisser'. All indications are that this is again an isolated tumour which is a bit of a good nugget, I suppose.

He's endured 5 months of chemo and I have dropped him off at the hospital this afternoon to have surgery tomorrow to remove the affected part of his right lung. Which turns out to be most of it, as far as we can tell.
It is his full intention to kick this thing up the arse again and get back out on the bike by spring, although I think he is just using this timescale as an excuse not to go riding in the cold weather.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask those of you who have been following his progress and who were so involved in getting him back on his bike last time to think happy and healing thoughts for him tomorrow and to will this tumour into oblivion.

I looked at the update thread you put up two years ago and saw the FB photo's - what a guy J must be, good on him. Absolutely no doubt that with spirit like that he'll give this cancer a big kick in the balls.

Thank you all of you.
I have to admit to having a bit of a wobble at the moment but I am sure J (and the surgeon) can do the necessary to kick some tumourous butt and get him fit and well again.
I feel kinda selfish to be honest - I am not the one going into theatre tomorrow - but he's going to get a nice few hours out cold tomorrow and I am already in a state about it... Thank goodness for annoying litle sisters!

A lot of people send me emails from all around the world, asking me about my fight with sarcoma, and about who or what inspires me. Funnily enough, the last person was a reporter a couple of Saturdays ago. My answer always starts with the line;

"...there's this guy with one arm called Julian in Sheffield..."

He's one of the reasons I'll never, ever give up. I owe him everything.

Metalheart - we did Whinlatter red in May, if that helps at all? He was better at it than I was. It's quite embarrasing!

Just had a good long chat with Bullheart and we have decided J is going to be fine and kick some sarcoma arse. We have the best cardiothoracic surgeon on side, a great oncologist and the good vibes of hundreds of friends - you're all ace and we appreciate your support more than you can possibly imagine.

And that good update will be coming soon - keep watching!

TN, yes I have had the embarrassment of being passed on an uphill by a man with one arm... I think I posted this on your original thread?

A red run is plenty good enough for me. I'll look forward to that thread in due course.

Also, if you could let us know when and where he'll be back on the bike. I've already been overtaken by a sumo-suit wearing singlespeeder and a unicyclist, I'd like to add a one-armed, one-lunged man to my collection.

TN Don't feel selfish - you have to acknowledge your fears and needs as well. sometimes being the supportive one is hard - but it helps to share that load as much as you can. I thank you for sharing and I hope we can in little ways help you.
