Mine needs doing. Got quoted £300 at the Omega shop in the Trafford Centre. 😐

Anyone else had one done recently, if so where and how much?

    Quartz or auto seamaster?

Harry; I put a thread on TZ-UK about this a couple of weeks ago. The guy took my Quartz seamaster, has polished it and fixed it. I would reccommend him. Cheap as well; new battery and seals, pressure test, fixed the problem it had on the circuit that was making it lose 10-15 mins a day, tightened up the clasp so the divers ext doesn’t keep dropping open and polished case and clasp- £85. Email in profile and I will pass on his details if you like.

If it’s an auto that’s probably the right kind of price. I expect to pay in the region of £450 to service my IWC.

This is one of the things people overlook when buying a ‘nice’ watch.

    I used http://www.swisstimeservices.co.uk

They quoted c.£200 to service my Omega Seamaster auto pending inspecting it first. They found that the chrono buttons needed replacing and total bill was £350 ish from memory 😯

The timekeeping now is less accurate than before and I’ve sent it back twice to get adjusted at no cost or quibble from them.

Not sure if that’s a recommendation of not, but I spoke to several shops about servicing and they all said it’s a bit of an art with not wholly predictable results. Unless it really needs a service, I’d not rush into it again and as mentioned above, I naively was unaware of this when my wife gifted me the watch (much as I love it tho).

Are you feeling a draft around your nether regions ?.

Cos I think someone is lifting something they ought not to.

Send your watch back to the Manufacturer for service.
Thats what happens to the Breitling.
    Job done.

This guy is very good. However if your watch is keeping time to within a few seconds a day I would leave it well alone.

That’s more than your mighty Vectra is worth 😉

As has been said – it is a fact that those of who choose to buy expensive watches have to put up with increased “running costs.”

I paid £140 to have a quartz Constellation serviced (Watches of Switzerland Manchester) and it took 16 weeks to get back to me. That was about 10 years ago too!

If it’s running +/- 20 secs a day or better then leave it.

I’ll also strongly recommend Ryte Time http://www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk/

I was quoted over £500 by Swiss Time Services to replace the main spring and service my Universal with a 4 week turnaround; Steve at Ryte Time quoted £125 for the same job and said it would be around 2 weeks. The work was completed for the amount and in the time frame initially quoted, the watch came back to me looking fab (he’d polished up the casing etc) and keeping perfect time. He also comes across as really helpful and genuine!

I feel I should warn you that Swiss Time Services http://www.swisstimeservices.co.uk initially quoted £175 for the service over the phone (which should have included a new main spring); a week later I had the quote for £500 – as I didn’t want to go ahead they charged me £20 for them to return it!

I just cant understand the difference between the original quote and the written quote considering I stated the make and model of the watch over the phone and the written quote didn’t outline any additional work. Really quite annoyed about it; had they given me an idea that it could be that price over the phone I’d have never sent it in.

I’ve had a vintage Seamaster and Heuer Carrera serviced by Chris Heal (website link) and I would heartily recommend him. They came back rejuvenated and tested, IIRC, to 4 positions.

Steve Burrage at Rytetime does a good job. Think I’ve had 6 watches serviced by him inc Omega auto at good price and all keep excellent time,

That’s because only IWC can service them – no parts or seals are available to third party repairers (IWC Spitfire here). Plenty of options for the “junior” brands.

But IWC aren’t in-house movements – aren’t they Valjoux and ETA movements, which are really Swatch, like Omega and loads of others? 80% of Swiss watches use ETA.

Plenty of options for the “junior” brands

The Spitfire is a modified ETA 2892. RLT watches did a watch with that movement in for £250 in 2007.

Sen recommendations for this guy – he does IWCs as well:

If you believe the marketing blurb then the IWCs which do use an ETA ebauche (most of the higher end models have manufacture movements) are still heavily modified, hence the reluctance to let other people service them.

Swatch have actually started restricting supply of their movements now so many Swiss manufacturers have had to go in-house much lower down the range than before.

    😆

Its called owning a premium automatic watch.
If you don’t like the servicing costs to have the watch serviced by the Manuf.
Then you really should’ve considered the entire ownership experience.
    imo.

I don’t take my Ferrari to Halfords for a service.

I also wouldn’t buy a watch that hadn’t been serviced by the manuf.

    😉

That’s a bit like saying you would only buy a car that has been main-dealer serviced, which for some cars is a pretty mediocre option.

And when Omega did a repair on my Speedy the case came back with a lot of scratches under the strap bar – like a bad polish job. Omega said that I did it when I changed the steel bracelet to it’s leather one – but it has always had a leather strap as it is standard on that model, and that strap hadn’t been changed as it was too new. Only reason I got it sorted was that I sent in a sh1tty email which a marketing guy say and he just sent me another watch.

Hence Omega won’t be seeing my watch again.

Mate at work had to put his Brietling in for repair – in the chain for 7 months – he is having to threaten legal action now to get it back.

slight hijack, but saves me starting a new thread 😆

I have a quartz one which is only 2 yrs old but I have a deep score on the bezel edge and blue bit from scraping it on a brick wall last week 😥

Any idea on costs for getting rotating bezel and blue bit replaced ?

    Thanks

    Mediocre is your opinion.
However, a lot of people like an OEM servie history when they buy their car.
Indeed, they value that over a 3rd party service history.

So its not just really me, is it 😉

Of course, it could all be about budget…

    yeah, people are stupid…

Of course, it could all be about budget…

I don’t pay any less when I have an independent service on my car, maybe more, but get a much better job and can be sure that things that were supposed to be done, like checking cambelt tensions, were actually done.

Plus if I go independent I generally get someone who has the gumption and skill to start up his own business rather than sit on a bench and work for someone else, and also employs similarly enthusiastic and appropriately skilled people, which is often a stark contrast to the staff you find at a main dealer.

what, like the Ferrari you quoted, for which you might well want to go to an independent specialist.

    Yeah, I knew that.
But that you had to explain that probably makes you the stupid one here.
    😉
And then again, you’ve got to look at who can’t afford to get their watch or their car serviced with the right people.

I bet you’d go to see an optician to have a tooth pulled.
    😉

what, like the Ferrari you quoted, for which you might well want to go to an independent specialist.
    Well….
    Depends on budget really.
If you can’t afford to service your Ferrari, then perhaps don’t have one ?.

    Yeah, I knew that.

I was actually thinking of the recent political threads on this forum pointing out the stupid voting public. But you are doing your best to fall into the same bracket.

    Depends on budget really.
If you can’t afford to service your Ferrari, then perhaps don’t have one ?.

what is your point – I said the independent may not be the cheapest and that cost was not a factor in determining where to get a service.

I bet you’d go to see an optician to have a tooth pulled.

what the h8ll does that mean?

I understand now – I see from another thread that you are an Audi driver…
