Got a mate who is hitting the young ’40’ milestone soon

He is a big bushcraft fan & we are thinking of buying him a decent short handled Axe, I know he has a large decent Swedish made one, errr, that sounded rude, but was not intentional 😉

Anyway, any bushcraft fans her that can point me in the right direction, Swedish Axe manufacture, £50-£100?

Or any others in that price range?

    Ta.

Gansfors is the usual recommendation on here when the axe threads come up.

LOL, well his chopper is on the big size & we thought he might like a little one to play with 😉

I’ve got a Gransförs Mini Hatchet, which is a fantastic little axe, and amazingly sharp, I can shave my arm with mine, but I love the Roselli above, the bearded head let’s you get your fingers right behind the head for shaving kindling and carving. It’s what I’d go for. There’s a slightly bigger version on the site.

So I should be calling my merlin a splitting maul. You need to get him two really, the splitting maul and the forest axe.

Saw those being thrown competitively this last weekend. Good fun.

If you want a really cool axe, this one’s a beaut, a proper Viking bearded axe:

    Yummy, but pricy.

    Check this out:-

Not as pretty as the trad wooden handled axes but it’s incredibly sharp and effective. Comes in several sizes.
